Remembrance Sunday Requiem Mass
10th November 2024

The annual Remembrance Sunday Requiem Mass for the Fallen was celebrated at Westminster Cathedral on 10 Nov.  Cardinal Vincent Nichols was the principal celebrant with RAF Principal Roman Catholic Chaplain, Rev (Sqn Ldr) Dave Skillen, and Army Chaplain, Rev (Capt) John Power both assisting.  Padre Power gave the homily which can be read here.

Members of all 3 Services were present in uniform, along with family members, MOD civil servants, and veterans.  All were there to honour those who have died in the service of their country to defend our freedoms and in the pursuit of peace.  They also prayed for the Prince of Peace to send his peace into the hearts of all people.

At the end of Mass, the customary silence was observed and the Last Post played by a bugler from the Welsh Guards.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,

Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.

They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;

They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

May they rest in eternal peace.

Amen.
