Together in Love:

RAF Group 187’s HCPT Pilgrimage to Lourdes Marks 70th Anniversary

In Easter 2026, RAF Group 187 embarked on a highly significant pilgrimage to Lourdes, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the HCPT (Hosanna House and Children’s Pilgrimage Trust). This special journey brought together 21 members of the RAF and Service family, including five children, one young helper and 15 dedicated adult volunteers to experience the unique spirit of Lourdes.

The pilgrimage offered Service children, often with complex additional needs, the opportunity to feel joy, friendship and a true sense of belonging in a special and nurturing environment. For many, it was a chance to be valued and celebrated, while their families gained moments of respite and reassurance, knowing they are supported by the wider Service community.

Over the course of the week, the group participated in a rich programme of activities designed to inspire and uplift. From the Trust Mass and the moving Torchlight procession to fun-filled outings such as the Animal Park visit, a Disney-themed Big Sing and a lively Festival on the Prairie, every day was filled with moments of joy and reflection. The pilgrimage also included special times of prayer, including the regional Mass and the group’s Prayers on the Stairs each evening, fostering a deep sense of spiritual connection.

This pilgrimage could not have happened without the unwavering commitment of volunteers, many balancing demanding operational careers, who generously give their time and energy to create lasting memories for the children and their families. It is a powerful demonstration of the RAF’s dedication to its people, embodying compassion, hope and the true spirit of service to others

The Group 187 pilgrimage would not be possible without the generous support of many partners. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the RAF’s Roman Catholic Trustees, the Royal Air Forces Association the HCPT Armed Forces Regional Chair and the PRCC’s office for their invaluable support and encouragement throughout this journey.

As the group returned home, the lasting impact of the pilgrimage was clear: a strengthened community, renewed hope, and the knowledge that every child and family is seen, valued, and supported by their Service colleagues.
