Padre Anthony Curran Promotion
At morning prayer on Thursday 26th March 2026, in the Station church of Christ the King, RAF Cosford, Senior Chaplain and Principal Chaplain (RAF), Reverend (Wing Commander) Deacon Dave Skillen led the chaplaincy team in a short rite of thanksgiving and blessing to celebrate the relative rank promotion of Deacon Anthony Curran RAF. Deacon Anthony now becomes The Reverend (Squadron Leader) and continues in his ministry as Station Chaplain to RAF Cosford.
This simple but moving occasion was, in many ways, historic both for the Bishopric of the Forces and for RAF Chaplaincy, and it highlights the great success of diaconate ministry in the UK armed forces. Deacons in the UK forces participate fully and equally in regular service chaplaincy, including serving in senior leadership roles alongside their priest and colleagues from across the Christian traditions and other World Faiths.
Deacon Dave said, "Today is a moment of joy, not only for Anthony and his family who lovingly support his ministry in the Royal Air Force, but also for the defence whole force community and for the ministry of deacon in the life of the Church. It just shows the potential of the diaconate as a force-multiplier (to use a military term!) when it comes to the Church's pastoral and spiritual mission and reach beyond the walls of the parish church."
Deacon Anthony's military promotion is a sign of the valued contribution deacons make to chaplaincy and the wider service community on behalf of the Catholic Church.
Please pray for more deacons and priests to explore armed forces chaplaincy.
