Salisbury Circle and Alabaré Join Forces
to Support UK Veterans in Malta
A powerful collaboration between the Salisbury Circle of the Catenian Association and the veterans’ charity Alabaré was celebrated on Thursday 22nd May 2025, as members of the Circle and their guests welcomed Karen Langley (Team Leader) and Sue Bradley (veteran and beneficiary) to their monthly dinner at the White Hart Hotel, Salisbury.
Karen and Sue shared their personal reflections on the recently completed Boots on the Ground project in Malta—an initiative that brought together seven veterans and four volunteers to help restore Fort Delimara, a historic 19th-century coastal fort. The project provided a unique opportunity for veterans to engage in meaningful, team-based work as part of their ongoing journey of recovery and reintegration into civilian life.

Co-ordinated in Malta by Joe Falzon, Past President of the Salisbury Circle, the project was generously supported by Heritage Malta, Visit Malta, and the Armed Forces of Malta. The Malta Circles of the Catenian Association also played a key role in welcoming and supporting the visiting group. Notably, Michael Attard and his wife Marisa of the San Lucjan Circle hosted a memorable barbecue at their farmhouse—an event that coincided with the 80th anniversary of VE Day, lending a particularly poignant touch to the visit.
Steve Carrivick, Immediate Past President of Salisbury Circle, was instrumental in supporting the initiative. His President’s Charity campaign raised vital funds and awareness to help make the trip a reality. The Salisbury Circle’s ongoing partnership with Alabaré reflects a shared commitment to honouring the service of veterans and supporting their well-being.
Karen and Sue’s moving testimony at the dinner highlighted the profound impact the project had on participants. Working alongside Heritage Malta experts, veterans developed new skills while making a lasting contribution to the preservation of Fort Delimara for future generations.
This successful international initiative is a shining example of what can be achieved through community, charity, and shared purpose—where acts of physical restoration go hand in hand with personal healing and growth.
